Hugh is a Post Graduate of the University of the West of England (UWE) and has also studied Management at Bournemouth University, today he is involved in the delivery of Communication and Conflict Management at Belfast Metropolitan College. Hugh has also been instrumental in introducing Irish Criminal Law as an optional module to security training in Northern Ireland, enabling students to access employment in the Irish Republic.
He is a Member of the Security Institute (incorporating the International Institute of Security), the Security Institute of Ireland (Dublin) and Chartered Management Institute, more recently elected as ‘Chair of the Northern Ireland Sector Consultation Group’ (Skills for Security) and Membership of the Institute of Conflict Management.
Hugh has a wealth of experience, over 30 years in the security industry, firstly as a Police Officer and later in the field of Loss Prevention both in the UK and abroad. He has an informed knowledge of the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Sectors, in Retail he managed the security and staff development of 32 stores across the East of England and North London, in Hospitality and Leisure he was responsible for the safety of over 3000 individuals across the UK.
Keen to return to his native Northern Ireland Hugh joined a multinational drinks company as Head of Security, and played a major part in the implementation of security procedures and development of the company’s security manual.
Hugh continued to develop his training skills whilst being appointed as General Manager (Ireland) for Churchill’s one of the UK’s largest auditing companies, responsible for the selection, recruitment, training and management of over to 100 auditors and computer analysts completing loss prevention audits for major blue chip retail companies in the UK and Ireland.
During this period Hugh became associated with CIA Excel Group and through his commitment to training eventually became responsible for centre approvals and accreditation of courses delivered by the group. Hugh now as Principal has responsibility for the running of the CIA Excel Group ‘Centre of Security Excellence’, which includes the research and development of many new training initiatives, liaising with colleges, awarding bodies and education departments.
