Bob is a retired police officer who served the vast majority of his police service proactively policing being a member of a number of crime and drugs enforcement units. During his last 4 years of police service he ran Strathclyde Police, Ciminal Investigation Department, Special Operations, Technical Support Unit (TSU) developing and supplying a very high level of covert technical surveillance, as well as technical analysis in video audio and digital fields. He has given evidence in criminal and civil proceedings on numerous occassions as an expert witness. Being responsible for the procurement of covert and forensic technical equipment for the UK's 2nd largest police force has afforded him the an expert knowledge of the wide array of state of the art equipment available in intelligence and evidence gathering. In his role he encountered numerous covert intelligence and evidence gathering technical operations in the fields of criminal investigations and counter terrorism. Bob has attended numerous training courses, seminars and forums, affording him a broad knowledge of covert technical surveillance, electronic countermeasures, conventional surveillance and specialist surveillance equipment.
In a training role Bob delivered training to his force in technical surveillance methods and best practice to all eligible officers including Special Branch, Serious Crime Squads, drugs and specialist surveillance units. In hostage siege situations Bob gave tactical intelligence training to incident commanders, negotiators and armed intervention teams.
Bob was previously a member of a national working party on Digital Evidence in the criminal justice system at the Home Office-Police Scientific Development Branch (PSDB) where he acquired knowledge of the most up to date information on digital systems and techniques.
Bob is a qualified in Electronic Engineering and has Higher National Units in computer specific subjects including programming. He is qualified in computer and mobile phone forensic analysis having successfully completed training with Guidance Software of Pasadena, California, in their use of the EnCase and BK Forensics software packages having completed all courses up to and including expert level.
Bob was the Uk Technical and Forensics Manager with the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) and has a broad knowledge of brand protection and intellectual property theft, optical disc piracy and technology and piracy issues generally.
Bob presently conducts covert technical surveillance for a range of clients from industry, local authorities, the national media, financial institutions and solicitors amongst others.
Bob uses his 33years operational and investigative experience as a backdrop to his acquired technical knowledge and adopts a practical outlook in investigations favouring the motto " Address the problem not the technology "
